I’ve been a bad blogger. Sorry about the silence. It’s been a rough week and even though this space has been quiet…my life has been anything but.
So, our not-so-little 2 year old is not sleeping well. He hasn’t been for about a week. It’s worse than his usual restlessness. Last night he didn’t got to sleep until 10pm and was up at 4am. Sure, he generally gets a nap in, but he’s still not getting the amount of sleep a child his age needs. I’ll be messaging his developmental pediatrician tomorrow to discuss how we can help him.
Cadet is also climbing out of his crib. YIKES! He is no where near being able to handle not being enclosed. I discussed this with his OT, and she agreed…he simply doesn’t have the tools to be left alone like that yet.
The solution we would have used, crib tents, have been recalled. And I’m having trouble finding any cost-effective replacement options. Sigh…
We saw a dermatologist for Cadet’s eczema last week. She was wonderful and worked with us to come up with a plan to help Cadet become more comfortable. So, we’re using a new moisturizer (Cera.Ve) and we also apply a light coating of a steroid cream twice a day. For the first time in a year or more, his skin is looking really good. We’ll see her again in a month to check in and see if we can stop the steroid cream.
The newest addition to Cadet’s life is a PECS system at home. Briefly, PECS is a way of Cadet communicating his needs/wants without language. It’s a system they use at Cadet’s school. So we have 5 PECS stationed around the house: food, drink, tired, bathroom, and outside. Just like at school, Cadet can bring us the PECS card of what he needs and we’ll help him. We also use it in conjunction with language and sign. It’s been helpful to him to have another way of communicating with us. He’s been communicating more without prompting, which is huge.
Yeah, so McRuger has been insanely busy. Like crazy. He is working on some special projects at work, so there have been some very late nights for him. He gets home and is just thumped. It looks like he’ll be doing some traveling for work in November, which he is looking forward to. But, McRuger needs some serious downtime, and just can’t get it right now.
Sigh…I’m tired. I’m emotionally drained. I’m achey. One of my close friends is going through a very rough time in her marriage. I’ve been helping her through some of it. It takes a lot out of me, but I’m happy that I can help her.
But, despite everything, I am doing pretty well. It’s starting to feel like fall here, which makes me very happy. The nights are crisp and cool, the days warm!
I’m looking forward to two weddings we’re going to over the next two weeks! One of them is for a former co-worker of McRuger’s who is also an adoptee. He is a big fan of adoption and has given us some great advice on being adoptive parents.
Now, I’m off to the Farmer’s Market and then some cooking!
How have you all been???
